Wine on Wheels Chicago will be a premier wine tasting event with top sommeliers from Chicago’s finest restaurants pouring close to 100 wines for charity. The event will also include a Silent Auction and we expect to draw over 200 people out to support our cause. All proceeds from Wine on Wheels Chicago will be split between BACKBONES and Wheeling Forward.
Wine on Wheels is a growing community of wine aficionados and sommeliers harnessing their love of great wines to benefit charity. We bring people together from across the hospitality industry to pour wines, socialize, and raise funds to empower people with disabilities to reach their potential. Wine on Wheels is the fundraising branch of Wheeling Forward and has raised over $900K in the last 8 years. Wheeling Forward was co-founded by Yannick Benjamin, a New York City-based sommelier who has not let spinal cord injury stop him from achieving his goals.
BACKBONES founder, Reveca Torres, was injured and paralyzed as a teenager and fortunate to be surrounded with a great support system. Interaction and friendship with others living with spinal injuries (SCI) made a significant impact in her life. Reveca started BACKBONES to ensure that others, especially those newly injured, had access to resources, information, and the same type of peer support she had. Over the past 10 years people with SCI, family, friends, caregivers and health providers have built a strong network- BACKBONES is a place to connect with others with the purpose of learning, teaching, and sharing.
